Happy New Year, everyone. No, this is not a New Year’s resolution looming on the horizon of this blog. This is me pulling myself out of the sadness and lethargy of an extremely bizarre year to do the right thing by my loved but neglected child, The Lateral Truth. Okay, I gave it a launch in Calgary in May 2008, packing out Pages Bookstore in Kensington. Okay, I’ve sold about seventy copies, either directly or through Pages, and given away another ten. Okay, I got a review on the James Randi website, and a couple on amazon. But hey: this baby needs boots for walking. So, having just inherited a little cash (part of the weirdness and sadness of 2008), I’m going to throw a few bucks at Lateral Truth, by way of advertising in my uberfavourite publication, The Skeptic. Watch that space.
Meantime, have a bit of fun: check me out at amazon.com, and find that my name also brings up a tome called I am Redeemed: A Three-Step Program on the Road to Redemption. No, I am not trying to - um - swing both ways. That RB lives in Kansas, where I have never set foot. But just to make sure my name was not whitened by the association, I posted her a five-star review with the following text: Er - not really a review. I’m the OTHER Rebecca Bradley, the hardbitten unredeemed atheistic secular humanist apostate responsible for the Gil Trilogy, Temutma, and The Lateral Truth. I thought my namesake might appreciate the disclaimer. I hope she is as amused as I am at the coincidence.
The other bright spot in 2008 was playing God in the IFWA musical at ConVersion in August, going head-to-head with Satan (Anna Bortolotto) in our karaokapocalypse, Armageddon Idol. It was fun. God in a pink suit, pearls, and astonishing wig, channelling Marianne Faithfull in the same role.
Other news: I was delighted to break my Tesseracts jinx by at last selling them a story, to come out in Tesseracts 13. “Kids These Days” - a sober little look at motherhood after the end of the world, which is horrible enough to be classified as horror.
More later, now I’m back. Cheers!
